Apex Field Maps is an offline map app made by an individual developer, Joshua McDowall, for the field crew he works with. Using the app requires login details from your administrator. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
Apex Field Maps uses your location while the app is open to show where you are on offline maps and to plan routes along access tracks. Your location stays on your phone unless you choose to share it (below). It is not sent to our server or to anyone else. Pins and drawn lines are stored only on your device. You can choose to export them (GPX/KML) using your phone's share sheet; where they go then is up to you.
The administrator can record a new road from their own phone's live GPS. That road line is uploaded so it can be shared with the crew as a map feature. Crew devices never send location.
Photos you take or choose are attached to pins and lines and stored only on your device. They are not uploaded.
Only when you tap Send my location, the app writes a text message containing your coordinates and a link, which you send from your own Messages app. When the person you sent it to opens the link, the coordinates in that link reach our server so the page can show them; they aren't stored or linked to you.
If you log a road section, its map line, your note, your photos and your login name are uploaded so the people it's shared with can see it. Your live location is not uploaded.
No advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no selling or sharing of data, and no accounts or sign-in with personal details.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone. To have a device check-in record removed from the server, email support@apexfieldmaps.com.
Apex Field Maps is a work tool and is not directed at children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page. Questions: email support@apexfieldmaps.com or see the support page.
